Youth Respite Grants FY18-FY19

DODD Youth Respite Grants (FY 18-FY19)

DODD has continued its commitment to improving current services and collaborating to develop new services for multi-system youth and their families. The department has awarded grant funding to eight collaborative projects for planned respite to support youth & families.

DODD sought proposals to increase the capacity for and utilization of planned, therapeutic respite and intensive in-home supports to prevent or reduce out-of-home placements, prepare for successful return home for youth in out-of-home placements, and improve outcomes for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities and significant behavioral challenges and their families

While the department has partnered with sister agencies on various initiatives to support youth served by multiple systems and their families, respite opportunities continue to be elusive and needed, especially for families with a child with both developmental disabilities and significant behavioral health challenges. County boards of developmental disabilities and local Family and Children First councils supporting youth with complex needs struggle to find the necessary supports, including planned, therapeutic respite.

In January 2018, the department issued a request for proposal for planned respite and in-home supports for youth with complex needs. The county collaborative projects that were funded include:
